People use the kitchen to entertain friends and family, and to relax while cooking a healthy meal. It’s for that reason that kitchens are one of the most commonly renovated rooms in the house. Light, white, and bright will always be a timeless and beautiful look in the kitchen, but its darker shades, such as navy, black, and hunter green that are taking over. These dark and moody shades are bold, dramatic, and cozy, and can be incorporated in a variety of ways.

Try incorporating one of these moody colors on your cabinetry or island, with a lighter neutral for your walls.

Spring 2019 Home Decor Trends

With a new season come new home décor trends, and this spring we will continue to put a large focus on natural colors, materials, and patterns that evoke the “less is more” mentality.

Pastels have been a hit for a while now, and while this won’t change, we will see pastels take on a chalky appearance, such as powder blue, lilac, and yellow.

Colorful, bold, and bright backsplashes will also be prevalent in kitchens and bathrooms. We’re seeing more homeowners want to add a touch more personality to these rooms, and patterned, colorful backsplashes can do just that.

We love floral and we love greenery, so try combining the two by incorporating green florals on your walls with wallpaper. And if you’re hesitant regarding wallpaper, look into removable wallpaper in case you feel that your tastes in décor will change in several years.

Animal print is another trend that has us excited. What we love about the animal print trend is that you have so many options when it comes to the print you select, and also with how you can use it; furniture, carpeting, or textiles.

And when it comes to carpeting, both distressed carpeting, and natural materials will continue to be trending, as there’s a desire to use sustainable and practical materials in the home.

Incorporating Curved Furnishings in Your Home

Much of design has been focused on clean, straight lines, but it’s important to remember that curves and soft edges are also very much welcome in home design. There’s nothing wrong with straight lines, as they add a clean and beautiful look to a space, but we just love the playfulness that curved furniture can bring to a space.

Whether your design style is retro, mid-century modern, Scandinavian, or anything in between, curved furniture can be incorporated into any room. Chairs can have a subtle roundness to the tops, or in the case of a dining room table, or the bar cart below, can be fully round.

Curved furnishings are great for adding softness by placing less emphasis on straight lines in the room. In a smaller room, curved furniture can help open up your space by creating more flow and essentially taking up less space. Consider mixing and matching furniture both with straight lines and curves.

In a larger room, such as your living room, a curved sectional works great as a focal point while also filling the room and creating less unused space. Our Top Colors for Spring 2019

Spring is generally a time where we celebrate the end of a cold and dreary winter. Not only do our spirits brighten and become more energetic, but so do our homes. This spring we’ll see a mix of bright, muted, and soft colors make their way into home interiors, and with such an array of trending colors, there is one that is sure to fit your style.

If you’re looking to add a bold but not intense color for a bit of personality, go for sunflower yellow. This deep shade looks great when used in velvet as an accent chair, boldly on your walls, or in a mid-century modern room, where muted colors are prevalent. 

Hunter green will also have a large presence in home design, as this bold, saturated color takes over the home with a dose of energy and elegance. In the living room or bedroom, use this shade as an accent through the use of pillows or blankets. In the dining room, we love hunter green velvet chairs at the table, and for those who like thinking outside of the box, bring the color to cabinetry.

Soft lilac and pink blush tones in home décor are still on the rise thanks to their ability to pair great with classic neutrals. When muted, these pastels can take on a rustic look, making them quite versatile. For a romantic look, pair these colors with other bright colors, like white.

Lastly, it’s no surprise that earthy colors are still incredibly popular in interior design. There will be a large emphasis on both green and grey being mixed with brown to create a muted, earthy palette. This color scheme is one we love seeing both in the kitchen and the living room, where we generally crave a slower, relaxing pace.
