If 2018 was all about minimalism, then 2019 is all about maximalism. For those that love color, texture, patterns, artifacts, and various design styles, maximalism is the décor trend for you.
Maximalism focuses on mixing and matching to create a room that looks and feels like you. It’s known for mixing design styles and patterns, layering texture, and clashing colors. It’s a trend that encourages you to pair a bohemian rug with a bright velvet couch, loud trinkets, and textiles of all textures and sizes.
You might think that this trend will make your room look messy, cluttered, and disheveled, but when the correct pieces are combined, you can create a truly warm, cozy, and inviting space. Maximalism is all about decorating your room with pieces that you love.
There’s no limit on artwork, books, or color when it comes to maximalist design. The more you have, the more pulled together your room will look. No rules pertain to how you decorate, but it’s always best to make sure that your pieces are connected in some manner, typically through color and/or symmetry. For instance, if you have a brightly colored rug, incorporate those colors into other pieces in your room, and with artwork, focus on keeping the same space between each frame.
