Perfect imperfection, also known as wabi sabi, is the Japanese philosophy that embraces imperfections and celebrates the beauty of flaws. Perfect imperfection is becoming a major interior design trend that we are seeing in 2018 that embraces pieces of décor that are flawed, weathered, and/or distressed.
This trend focuses on showcasing pieces that aren’t shiny and perfect, and puts an emphasis on the worn and loved look, such as messy throw blankets, distressed furniture, and antiques that tell a story.
A distressed rug that’s been found at an antique store or an estate sale is a wonderful way to create the perfect imperfection look. Or incorporate this trend with handmade pottery, exposed brick or beams, or with a well-loved velvet chair. Don’t be afraid to decorate with pieces that have cracks or splatters, or are irregular in shape.
Adding the perfect imperfection look to your home will give it a relaxed vibe. Beauty comes in being unique, and if a piece is one of a kind, it makes for an even more personalized home.
