Decorating with Leaning Shelves

Creating visual interest in your home can be tricky. There are architectural components that can create an impact, such as high or coffered ceilings, gorgeous windows, and wooden beams, but creating an impact in your room is a bit harder to accomplish once your home has already been built.

You could add statement lighting or use patterned wallpaper on your walls, but that would be expected. Think outside of the box and get 3-dimensional with the use of leaning shelves. Not only will the addition of a leaning shelf add visual interest, but it doubles as storage.

Leaning shelves can break up the flatness of a room, add height to your space, and because they’re open and airy, they give your room a more welcoming feel. In your kitchen leaning shelves can be used for dishes, cookbooks, and supplies, in the living room they can be used to showcase novels, baskets, and décor, and in your bathroom, they’re ideal for storing towels and hygiene products.

Master The Art Of Throw Pillows

Throw pillows can be a fun and addicting décor item to collect. Part of this is because you have what seems like endless options in regards to size, texture, patterns, and colors, and also partly because throw pillows are an incredibly easy way to update your home and give it a fresh look.

Since design is in the eye of the home owner, there is essentially no wrong way to select your pillows, but we have several guidelines that we love to follow.

Patterns

Patterned throw pillows are a must. They tell a story about who you are while adding character to your space. Patterns are a great way to bring multiple colors to play off of. If you choose larger pillows for your patterns, choose a small pattern in order to condense the print on the pillow.

Take It Down A Notch

Once you have your patterns picked out, bring in one or two non-patterned medium sized pillows to bring the vibe down a notch. You can choose neutrals, or pick a color that is used in your patterned pillows to mellow out your collection.

Add Texture

Whether faux-fur, chunky knits, or leather, a textured throw pillow in a smaller size will add instant depth to your furniture. Seeing a textured pillow on a couch automatically adds a cozy feeling that makes us want to curl up and relax!

Size Matters

It’s a good idea to add a bit of dimension with your throw pillows, so generally 2 large pillows, 2 medium sized pillows, and 1 smaller throw pillow will add the perfect level of dimension. You don’t need to stick to one shape either. A mix of square and rectangular pillows is an easy way to spice it up a bit!
