Decorating with Furry Essentials

January is cold, and the following few months are only colder, so when we are stuck indoors to hibernate and stay warm, what we want most is to cuddle up in a room that looks AND feels cozy and warm!

To create a room that exudes warmth, the easiest, and comfiest way to do so is to bring in faux fur! Not only does furry furniture add warmth, but it also adds aesthetics and a touch of luxury to your room. A furry white ottoman in your living room is a great way to add character and brightness to the space, and in a modern room, the fur can "soften" the décor.

Faux fur blankets are the perfect accessory, as they not only add texture, but they provide you with instant warmth when you wrap up in it! When not in use, drape the blanket over your couch or arm rest for a touch of decorative flair.

If faux fur is a bit too much for your design tastes, start small by adding a fur pillow to a bed or couch. It's simple enough that it can add a contrast of textures in your room, but at the same time, isn't overpowering.

How To Decorate When You Have Dark Floors

Design can be a tough battle to face when you have dark floors to work with. More times than not, lighter flooring is used, whether it be carpet, luxury vinyl tile, or hardwood, which gives you plenty of options when it comes to your decor. It's a different story when you have dark floors, as adding darker furniture or colors to your space can make your home appear smaller.

Choose Light Furniture & Wall Color

In order to contrast dark floors, choose a lighter color for your walls. Light walls give off the sense that your room is larger than it truly is, and at the same time, can make your room pop with the light and dark contrast. In regards to your furniture selection, light furniture is ideal for dark floors, as the furniture will help brighten the room.

First off, when it comes to design, there are no rules, as every designer and home owner has different taste, but when it comes to mixed patterns, there truly is no rule on what patterns can be mixed, and how you can mix them. We love the idea of choosing a statement piece that is busy, as it allows a larger canvas to carry various colors or designs.

Connect Mixed Patterns With A Common Denominator

By having your statement piece hold the most character, you can then use those colors or patterns for inspiration in your smaller pieces. You can mix patterns with your artwork, flooring, furniture, or even accent pieces, and by connecting them all with a similar color or shade of colors, you've created a room that works!
