When it comes to your home décor, you not only want it to make a beautiful impression, you also want it to ring true to your personality. If you're carefree, adventurous, and bold, your décor might be more adventurous in design than someone who is more structured and reserved.
With regard to mixing patterns, three seems to be the magic number, however only one of these patterns should be large in scale or size. The other two patterns should be smaller in scale, and work best as complements to the large pattern. For example, if you have a large, floral pattern in dark blue, consider adding geometric and striped patterns, in shades of blue.
The key is to mix patterns the right way in order to avoid an eyesore and a cluster of mismatched patterns. If you want more than one color, choose complementary colors, or if you have a flair for eclectic, feel free to play with a handful of colors. Remember, it's your room and your home. If the mix of patterns and colors matches your style, then you've succeeded.

It's best to start by incorporating patterns through the use of pillows, and then work your way up towards the layering of patterns on your walls, floor, ceiling, and window coverings.
