The color of royalty, elegance, wealth and glam is plum. Plum is a warm yet rich red purple that is extremely versatile in color, as it can range from very dark, where it exudes pure elegance, or it can fall on the lighter side, where it's seen as a warm and classic color.
It's Okay to Start Small
If you'd like to make a change in your home decor but are weary of taking a big plunge, start small by bringing in accent pieces in a shade of plum that best suits your room's decor. Plum can be an overwhelming color depending on how it's incorporated, so take small steps by bringing in accent pillows or updating your draperies to a rich plum. Small changes can have as big of an impact as larger ones, such as changing the color of your walls.
Bright Plum vs. Dark Plum
Soft purple looks beautiful on walls, whether it's used on all four walls or simply as an accent wall. If your home is more modern, consider using a brighter plum, and to make the color pop even more, include a white trim around the room. For a darker shade, use a deep plum in a room that you'd like to have a more elegant feel to it, such as a dining room.

When decorating in an elegance-inspired room, such as your dining room or a formal living room, thick velvet chairs or couches look beautiful when used in a rich plum. This not only adds traditional flair to your space, but it also embodies the feeling of prosperity, a characteristic often associated with this glamorous color.
