Designer Spotlight: Joyce Clegg

Joyce Clegg, owner of Daydream Incorporated, has been designing spaces for over 20 years. Daydream Incorporated was established in 1999 and is based out of Denver, Colorado, where she works on both residential and commercial projects throughout Colorado, California, Arizona and the West. Joyce comes to us as an affiliate of Floor Coverings by CPA, her local IDG showroom.

Don't Be Afraid of Olives

One of the prettiest and hottest colors of the upcoming year is olive green, and just like any color, this trend varies from both a muted, light olive green, to a deeper olive green, giving you the freedom to take this trend and make it your own. Often associated with being murky and boring, this color can in fact add vintage charm or a classic country look to your home if you have the right touch!

In a bedroom, an easy way to decorate with olive green is to incorporate bed linens or pillows in either a solid olive or a patterned olive. This gives your room a pop of color in doses that perfectly suit your style.

If staying up to date on the hottest trends is right up your design alley, consider bringing olive green into your room's decor with accent pieces. An area rug, artwork, or decorative throw pillows and blankets are all interchangeable and are a fabulous way to keep up with the seasonal trends, but if you're not afraid of commitment, replace your couch with one upholstered in an olive velvet for a vintage look.

While smaller doses of the color can have just as much of an impact in your room, it will also look incredibly gorgeous on your walls, allowing you to decorate with warm, sandy neutrals with your furniture.

When Grey Décor Isn't Dreary

Steely blues and dreary greys are commonly known as cool colors of the winter season, but that doesn't have to be the case this year. This winter, grey décor is hot! Unlike the cold, winter skies, grey in your home can be uplifting, welcoming and bring happiness to your interiors.

Different Routes to Grey

Take the plunge this winter and make grey the new neutral for your walls, or if you prefer to add the color in smaller doses, incorporate grey through the use of patterned wallpaper, window treatments, decorative throws or artwork. An area rug with various shades of grey can have just as strong of an impact on your room as grey walls, so don't be afraid to choose a route that best suits you!

Shades and Patterns

Bring greys into your room design in different shades or in a mix of patterns to bring character and edge to your space. A great room to mix shades and patterns is your bedroom, where the walls, bed linens and flooring can all vary in color and style.

In your living room, add slate grey furnishings and decorative pillows, while in the kitchen, consider grey appliances with cabinets and countertops in different shades of grey. The versatile color can also be incorporated into your kitchen more subtly through the use of grey bar stools or a light grey kitchen table.
