In one month we will be ringing in a new summer, and with that comes summer dresses, pool parties, s’mores by the fire and for most home owners, a fresh start to their interiors. During the colder months, couches are covered in blankets and wood is stacked near the fireplace, but with the cold days behind us and sunshine over our heads, it’s time to switch your home to summer mode.
The first step in kicking winter out and welcoming summer is to stow all winter accessories and anything that adds a sense of heaviness to your room. Replace darker artwork for a piece or two that pops with color, or consider a light blanket to replace a heavier blanket.
If you’ve done your spring cleaning, now all you really need to do is open your windows, light a candle in a citrus or fresh linen scent, and let the fresh air into your home. Add an accent decorative bowl or lamp in a summery shade to add extra energy to your fresh space. If you don’t prefer candles, fill your decorative bowl with seasonal potpourri to bring the scent of summer to your home.
If you have a sunroom or a localized sitting area, turn this into your focal point this summer, but make sure the space has ample windows for endless sunshine to add extra warmth. Add a pretty table to the sitting area for the perfect spot to sip iced tea, eat fresh fruit, and catch up with neighbors.
How are you getting your home ready for the summer months?
