Decorating with Dark Accent Walls

When it comes to decorating your home, you will always want to create a focal point in each room that will draw the attention of your guests. While many opt for bright accent pieces, an often underused approach is to make the focal point be your wall, and not by bringing a beautiful piece of artwork to a wall. In fact, painting an accent wall in a dark color can do just that.

A dark accent wall can make your room dramatic, and really draw attention to a certain area or object in your room. Walls such as those that do not have windows or doors on them make for the better wall to choose as your accent wall. Shorter walls that are plain in design also rank higher in wall preference.

You might be asking yourself, what piece of furniture do I highlight with my accent wall? The answer can be as simple as using the wall that your headboard or fireplace is placed against, or you might have a beautiful piece of artwork that can pop even more against an accent wall. If your home has breathtaking windows, this is a great wall to showcase those, in which this is the exception to the no window rule.


The great aspect of using a dark color on your accent wall is that both warm and cool colors pair beautifully when used in accent throws or decorative vases. A dark accent wall can also bring about various looks during both the day and evening, giving this color choice a double effect.

Fall is one of the happiest seasons, as the weather isn’t too hot, and not too cold. Leaves are turning bright orange, yellow and red, while pies and fall inspired treats are baking in the oven. Friends and family host football viewing parties, and outdoor fanatics spend weekends hiking their favorite mountains. When it comes time to entering your home, having a welcoming front porch is key.

Bring Nature to Your Steps

Including an assortment of mums adorning matching urns, and scattered pumpkins to your steps or wicker chairs will bring nature to your front steps and create a welcoming entrance for your guests.

Focus on Your Door

Incorporating rich or bright colors will create a cheery atmosphere, while a bright, red front door with cornstalk on each side will pop against the greenery.  A wreathe on your door will seal the deal.

To customize the fall décor additionally, included a monogrammed letter of your last name on the wreath or place a bow on each cornstalk.
