The Appeal of the Curb-less Shower

The latest trend in home design is embellishing your bathroom to create the ultimate shower experience. Showers have increasingly become more favorable than tubs, and more curb-less showers are finding their way into bathrooms.

Curb-less showers are becoming attractive for two main reasons. One is that they bring style to the bathroom, along with making a small bathroom appear more spacious and spa-like. Secondly, and on a more serious note, they are being used for accessibility reasons. For those that are wheelchair bound or have limited mobility, it allows for easier access.

Geometric Shapes on Your Walls

One of the hottest trends of 2014 is bringing geometric shapes to your walls in the form of wallpaper. Whether it’s your accent wall, feature wall, or the entire room, circles and hexagons are getting a lot of attention. In fact, one of the hottest looks is vintage style hexagon wallpaper.

Geometric wallpaper is great for powder rooms and kitchens, as the repeating circles and squares can add eye-catching vigor to your room. When you’re putting pattern on all walls in a room, it’s important to keep the other elements in your room neutral to avoid overpowering the room.

If bringing geometric shapes to your walls is too extreme, consider bringing the prints to throw pillows, chair cushions, or with a carpet. Bold prints in small doses can still give you a similar effect, but with less risk. Herringbone Pattern Has a Big Effect in Rooms

Herringbone, a distinct, v-shaped weaving pattern which resembles the skeleton of a herring fish, is a popular pattern that can be found on floors, backsplashes, and accent pieces in homes.  Popular on walls, herringbone is being used as a backsplash in the kitchen, along with on accent walls, and varies from tile to wood to paint.

 

The herringbone pattern is also extremely popular on floors, and the pattern is being created with brick, marble, and also carpet. A Modern Twist on Shelving

An easy and often overlooked way to update your kitchen and bring an entirely new feel to your space is with the use of open shelving.  Open shelving not only gives the room a light and airy feel, but it also brings a modern twist to the space.

Open shelving is optimal for many reasons.  Not only is it a more affordable option compared to cabinets, but it also allows for easy access to your pieces, and the openness of the shelves results in you staying more organized, so as not to let dust or clutter to collect.

There are various uses for open shelving, such as to create a display of art, which only requires putting food in clear, glass jars. Side shelving is also a great option for cook books and decorative pieces.
