Wallpaper is stepping up its game and is more than just a wall covering. Bold colors and geometric prints are being used to create effects that are otherwise not possible with paint. The goal of wallpaper in 2014 is to create the biggest statement with the paper that is being used in your home.

In fact, it’s not just popping up on walls, but a strong trend is to use wallpaper to decorate areas that would otherwise be overlooked, such as the ceiling, stairs, or on decorative pieces of furniture.

A punch of color or print on your ceiling goes a long way and can change the feel of the room entirely. Not only does it highlight the trim and moldings that you’re not initially aware of, but it drastically increases the level of character and charm in your room.

Shelley Amato began her career in San Francisco, where she first offered her services pro-bono for a school under construction before working 10 years as a small business consultant. Shelley’s business experience and passion for design inspired her to launch Adorn Design Group in 2003, where she is the Principle Designer and Creative Director.

The Possibilities of Brown

Brown is such a color that can be used in every room, as any color goes with it. Brown makes people feel comfortable and at ease, and with varying hues, just about any color combination can be used.

For minimal risk but high impact, light brown walls work best when you want objects in the room to steal the spotlight. Dark brown has the opposite impact, as dark brown walls become the star of the room. Dark brown is cozy and looks fabulous when it is paired with bold colors.
