We recently sponsored a webinar (web seminar), led by Associates III, on the basics of creating sustainable interiors - with a key focus on floor coverings.
I began to fully realize how much influence I have as a consumer, to ask directed questions and to push for sustainable products. If you’re not sure what to look for in sustainable floor coverings.
Here’s a handy guide when shopping for sustainable floor coverings:
• Choose materials that are durable and long lasting; like natural wood, engineered wood, reclaimed wood, bamboo, cork, tile, wool and handmade or hand-knotted rugs, including veggie dyes.
• Choose flooring materials that come from natural renewable resources, such as wool, silk, sisal, coir, sea grass, jute and hemp.
• Specify carpeting that is 100% wool or 100% plant fiber or any combination of natural fibers.
• Choose products that are adaptable, reusable and biodegradable.
• Ask about the products you specify, where they came from, how they’re constructed and what the lifespan of the product is.
Associates III is an interior design firm based in Denver, Colorado, USA that specializes in creating sustainable interiors. You can check out their website at associates3.com.
I will be putting this danzilzg insight to good use in no time.

Some excellent advice there. Is this stuff going to be more expensive than normal products though?
